ON THE DESIGN DESK - THE VANCOUVER SPECIAL PROJECT

Renovations of a “Vancouver Special” is in full swing for a young family in Vancouver. With interiors inspired by relaxed sophistication and midcentury modern, a busy family with some fun young girls needed a space to not only entertain, but cozy up and watch a movie as a family. Mixing the 70’s charm of the existing “Vancouver Special” with some fun modern touches this home will be timelines for years to come.

At our first walkthrough of the space we were inspired by the wood paneling, decorative basement tile, and globe decorative lighting fixtures. The interior style of this home has developed into transitional with a modern flare as you can see from the images below showing the overall colour scheme for the home.

It’s bright, fresh, and organic. Here’s some insight on how we’re achieving this family’s design style on a budget without compromising quality. Craftsmanship, quality, and undeniable style is important to the homeowners! This is a home fit for a busy and active family, so without question we were looking for a product to withstand their hustle and bustle and the flooring selection of French Impressions Chardonnay from Divine Flooring fits perfectly.

A modern take on a traditional kitchen features black cabinetry contrasted with light flooring and durable countertop surfacing for this busy family. Quartz surface is low maintenance, stain and scratch resistant and durable. Empira White is the sample in the images; isn’t it beautiful next to that natural wood?

We’ve considered brass, black, and classic white plumbing fixtures for different rooms in this home. The two samples shown in these images are kitchen sink finish options in Thunder Grey and White by Kholer.
