ADDING TOUCHES OF POTTERY, TERRAZZO + CLAY

For those of you who don’t know me, it is pretty obvious that I love everything to do with design. From picking out furniture and creating colour palettes, to sharing interior design tips and renovating houses, I love being submerged in all things design. One of my favourite things is to see old design trends coming back to life with an innovative twist. Right now, we are seeing a huge revival of pottery, clay, and terrazzo in all areas of design—and I must say I am going crazy for it!

Terrazzo

It has been around since almost the beginning of time and terrazzo flooring has been referred to as the “original sustainable flooring” as it originally took the scraps from opulent jobs and incorporated them into a cost-effective flooring for patios. Today, terrazzo continues to refurbish leftover materials from marble, quartz or recycled glass to create a “high end” sought-after and sustainable floor. One of our favourite interior designer tips right now is using terrazzo on all surfaces in the bathroom—as seen below. I just can’t get enough of this updated revival right now!

Check this out: terrazzo tile isn’t just being used on floors! It’s transitioning into terrazzo home accessories. From small items like pots or planters to larger center pieces like coffee tables, this modern terrazzo look is taking over!

With all these trends this year going back to basics and refining the traditions, I’m excited that handmade pottery and clay is making a comeback. These handmade pots from Pop & Scott are beautifully simple. They put a fun twist on planters that will not only compliment your home, but that plant it’s carrying as well. Not your ordinary run-of-the-mill pots! I am always looking for fun, unique accessories that add character to a space, no matter how big or small. These works of art from Minimal Design combines 2 things I’m passionate about: sustainability and art. Made from 100% eco-friendly materials, the raw wood is transformed into an intricate, geometric sculpture.

Ceramics

When it comes to ceramic pots, we often think of those basic, orange clay pots. I love seeing an old technique get remastered! There is something to be said for clay pottery, it’s a strong natural product that can transformed to any shape with just the touch of your fingers. I love what the designers at Ansel & Ivy have come up with. They do a beautiful job of combining a simple approach to the shape and form of the clay, with a fun colour palate and pattern to transform your typical pot from drab to fab!
