You may have been called a teacher’s pet once or twice over the last semester? you been called a spouge, in a good way? Eager to get your feet wet in this industry called design? Are most of your friends shy to invite you over for brunch as they suspect you will budget their interior style? 

The Jamie Banfield Design Inc. team is growing and we are looking to add a self-motivated, question asking, detailed oriented, design savvy Junior Designer to #teamJBD.

The design assistant will work directly with the whole interior design team and trade partners on the firms administrative and residential projects across Canada. Successful candidates must hold a strong level of understanding and execution in AutoCAD and an eagerness to learn more residential design, space planning, design development; and grown into a team member that has the ability to create and articulate diversified design concepts while understanding the client’s needs within function, use and durability of the home while researching, selecting, specifying and documenting the latest finishes, fixtures and equipment that fits with our clients various needs.

The role functions as a member of the interior design team and will directly report to the lead interior designer and will be engaged in both administrative and creative tasks such as assisting to create and updating design aspects of the projects scope of service and budget while delivering the highest quality of work exceeding our clients expectations. It is important that all successful candidates maintain excellent client and vendors relationships, have clear communication skills and the ability to be self-motivated and self-managed while working in a collaborative environment.

We are looking for an outstanding design assistant that brings the experiences of:

  • Research new finishes, materials and equipment while picking up the phone, having conversation with vendors and trade partners.

  • Assist in designing, creating and optimizing concept layouts for all types and scaled residential projects across Canada. 

  • Keeping our sample room update, organized and functional.

  • Practice and collaborate on the programing and pre-planning design analysis.

  • Grow to possess a strong knowledge for the design process.

  • Coordination and communication with all members of the project team including clients, contractors, trades vendors and consultants.

  • Assist in developing and accurately complete space planning, programing and design development, documentation and construction administration tasks.

  • Listen, respect and absorb critiques, feedback and direction.

  • Establish, develop and maintain positive business and customer relationships.

  • Become a mentee within the design team while working in a fast pace environment.

All successful candidates must hold and life for:

  • Be a graduate or enrolled in an Interior Design program from a CIDA accredited school.

  • No minimum experience in design or construction needed.

  • Hold a high level of organization while being focused on the details.

  • Goal and deadline orientated.

  • Customer service genius.

  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office, including Work, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Has amazing communication skills and not scared to pick up the phone over sending an email.

  • Has a proven ability to self-motivate and be a self-start.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; while using a range of office storage, including email, spreadsheets and databases.

  • Has a valid BC drivers licence.

 Compensation range:

  • $18.00 - $24.00 CAD per hour.
